Performance Design and Technology

Performance Design and Technology is designed to inspire and enable emerging artists and technicians and provides opportunities to gain significant practical experience within a wide range of performances and events. There is a foundation/core of 18-22 credits with a requirement of 6-10 additional credits to explore specific interests and a 3 cr. Capstone project to be completed in the student's final year. Foundation: The following sequence is preferred 18 - 22 credits
PDAT 120 Technical Theatre 4 credits
or PDAT 221 Costume Construction 3 credits
THEA 212 From Page to Stage: Script Analysis 4 credits
PDAT/THEA 220 Design Fundamentals for Stage, Dance and Film 3-4 credits
History Class - one Theatre, Dance, Music, Art or IART history class 2 credits
Performance Experience - one theatre, dance, music performance class 3 - 4 credits
or participation in Music Ensemble, Performing Arts or IART produced performance 2 credits
At least 2 credits of Play Production - PDAT 270 or PDAT 370  
   
Design / Technology Requirements  

Students must complete EITHER 2 (two) 200 level technology courses and 1 (one) 300 level design course OR 1 (one) 200 level technology course and 2 (two) 300 level design courses.

THEA 230 and some sections of PDAT 200 will fullfill the 300 level requirement.

Dance

Dance Minor Mission
Alfred University's dance minor is composition based and designed to develop artistry in dance making, performance, and site specific performance. The program, open to students of all levels regardless of experience or past training, promotes excellence in dance, and encourages cross-disciplinary work with visual art, environmental studies, sound design, music, performance art, and theater - drawing from strengths unique and specific to Alfred University. Students have many professional level opportunities to perform and engage with the larger dance world, including working with world-class guest artists, and performing and choreographing for AU Dance Theater. Through rigorous individual and collaborative explorations in dance, students develop skills that serve them as they pursue a variety of career and graduate school opportunities.
