Psychology : Gerontology Major

The student majoring in Gerontology studies psychological, social, political, and biological aspects of aging. The major also provides for the application of classroom knowledge to real-life situations through a supervised internship.

Major Requirements

Students must complete all of the following:

  • GERO118 Introduction to Adult Development & Aging
  • BIOL 119 Physiology of Aging
  • PSYC 210 Communication & Counseling Skills
  • SOCI 348 Sociology of Families
  • PSYC 371 Psychology of Death & Dying
  • GERO 429 Cognition & Aging
  • GERO 485 Gerontology Internship

Students must complete one course from each of the following groups:

  • PSYC 220 Psychological Methods & Statistics
  • SOCI 230 Introduction to Data Analysis & Statistics
  • SOCI 253 Social Welfare Institutions
  • POLS 355 Public Policy
  • GERO 300 Special Topics in Gerontology
  • GERO 450 Independent Study
  • GERO 497 Senior Seminar in Gerontology

Total credit hours for Gerontology Major = 34
