At Alfred University, we offer two years of Arabic language and culture, as well a Topics courses on various subjects related to the Arabic-speaking world. Classes are taught by native Arabic speakers sponsored by the Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant Program. In the first year, students are introduced to the Arabic alphabet and practice basic skills in speaking, listening, writing and reading. In the second year, they further develop their intercultural communicative competence in Arabic. Students are encouraged to participate in the extracurricular activities of the Arabic Club.
This year our Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistant is Rafika Zahrouni from Hammamet, Tunisia. Rafika is currently preparing an MA is Applied Linguistics from Leicester University in England and plans in the future to complete a PhD in order to teach linguistics in a Tunisian university. A native speaker of Arabic, Rafika also speaks English and French fluently and some German. |
