Pi Mu Epsilon, Inc (PME)
Pi Mu Epsilon is the Honorary National Mathematics
Society. It was founded on May 25, 1914 at Syracuse
University and currently has over 300 chapters
at colleges and universities throughout the United
States. The purpose of PME is the promotion of
scholarly activity in mathematics among the students
in academic institutions. The Alfred University
Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon was chartered April 28,
2002 and sponsors the Problem of the Month Competition.
The AU Math Club
The AU Math Club is a recognized AU student organization
and holds meetings twice a semester. Typically
these meetings are held at lunch time over
pizza and refreshments with faculty and students
making presentations. During the 2005 Fall
Semester, student Jim Krysiak presented results
of his research from a summer REU (Research
Experiences for Undergraduates) at Penn State,
and Professor Darwyn Cook made a presentation
on the mathematics of perspective. |
