| The mathematics major gives a student a sound foundation in modern mathematics and its applications. The major is quite flexible, allowing for emphasis on pure or applied mathematics. In recent years mathematics majors have found excellent placement in a number of fields, including actuarial, computer applications, secondary teaching, and Ph.D. study.
Major Requirements
The mathematics major requires a total of 36 credit hours consisting of the following required courses:
MATH 151 Calculus I
MATH 152 Calculus II
MATH 253 Calculus III
MATH 271 Differential Equations
MATH 281 Problem Solving
MATH 371 Linear Algebra
MATH 481 Modern Algebra
MATH 491 Advanced Calculus Plus 6 hours of mathematics electives chosen from courses numbered above 300.
