Unique experience
The Individually Structured Major (formerly known as Track II) at Alfred University is a unique educational experience that offers students the opportunity and challenge to design and direct their own academic major. It is an independent, self-initiated academic program in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences that is individualized, flexible, yet carefully structured and supervised.
Open curriculum
In contrast to most traditional majors that are
designed by the faculty and have pre-established
course requirements, the Individually Structured Major offers an open curriculum
that allows students to work with faculty advisors
to select courses and alternative learning experiences
to meet personal educational goals and career
objectives.
Successful outcomes
Students
find the personal and individualized attention
that comes from working with an interdisciplinary
three-member Faculty Advisory Board adds significantly
to the quality and value of their overall educational
experience. Employers and graduate schools have
been impressed by the initiative, distinctiveness,
and experience of graduates of this program.
