Within the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, the Division of Education is home to both graduate and undergraduate programs. In addition graduate programs in Literacy and Numeracy Education, leading to the degree of Master of Science in Education, the undergraduate programs include both a major in early childhood/childhood education and minors in secondary education/special subjects (7-12) and art education (K-12).
Early Childhood/Childhood Major
Alfred University's early childhood (teaching pre-K - 2nd grade)/childhood (teaching K-6th grade) program is field-based, with two practicum placements, taken the semester prior to student teaching. These experiences give you an excellent opportunity to observe and model a variety of instructional strategies and practices at various grade levels. Middle Childhood/Adolescence/Special Subjects Minor
Students interested in majoring in an academic or special subject area, and wishing to work with middle school and high school students, may be interested in obtaining a minor in education. Graduate Programs
Alfred University offers graduate programs in both Literacy and Numeracy as well as New York State required Initial Certification.
Generous assistantships are available to full-time graduate students in education.
