Criminal Justice Studies - Major

Major Requirements

Criminal Justice Studies majors must complete 28 credit hours in required courses including:

CRIM 350 Seminar in Criminal Behavior (4 credits)
CRIM 340 Concepts of Penology (4 credits)
CRIM 460 Fieldwork in Criminal Justice Studies (4 credits)
SOCI 344 Deviance and Society (Prerequisite SOC 110) (4 credits)
SOCI 345 Crime and Delinquency (Prerequisite SOC 110) (4 credits)
POLS 232 Judicial Processes (2 credits)
POLS 417 American Civil Liberties (2 credits)
PSYC 342 Abnormal Psychology (4 credits)

Additionally, students must select 16 semester hours from the following:

Institutes
In addition to completing the foregoing courses, the Criminal Justice Studies major is required to attend at least two institutes. These are normally offered once a year for a day to a day and a half. They deal with specific issues facing professionals in the criminal justice field. In the past, students have visited prisons and police academies, and had guest speakers from the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office, probation offices and several other criminal justice areas.
