College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
Comparative Cultures - Major

Major Requirements

Students take three core courses:
Introduction to World Religions
Cultural Anthropology
Language and Culture

They then choose 22 credits of electives, 16 of which must be in upper division courses at or above the 300 level in anthropology, religious studies, and art history of non-Eurocentric traditions. Each student caps his or her study with a fieldwork project worth 8 credits, often coupled with study abroad. About 80 percent of our Comparative Culture majors have completed at least one semester studying in another country. Some have gone to African countries from Ghana to Madagascar, and others have gone to south Asia - India, Nepal and Bali. A few have studied in Europe, Australia, and Japan.

The equivalent of two years' language study is also required.
