Athletic Training and Exercise Science

The Athletic Training Education Program at Alfred University is based on the philosophy that education is a life-long process. Our profession, through its practice of specific skills, fills the needs of athletes and recreationally active individuals. It's a dynamic, exciting field due to continually improving methods of training and new findings through research. Our goal is to give students the concepts, principles, and tools they need to continually acquire knowledge and perfect their skills in the field of athletic training.

Students who complete our Athletic Training Education Program are qualified to take the National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification Examination. As a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) accredited program, our goals are to:

1. Provide a quality, up-to-date education.

2. Provide leadership and service to the university community.

3. Promote self-directed learning and critical thinking.

4. Encourage participation in various professional athletic training organizations.

5. Provide the educational means of developing knowledge in Cognitive, Affective and Psychomotor domains and Clinical Proficiencies

Exercise Science minor
Part of the Division of Athletic Training, the exercise science minor is intended to provide students with the ability to assess some of the growing concerns within our society. The minor specifically addresses concerns facing active populations such as wellness, fitness, strength training, conditioning, injury prevention, and rehabilitation. Additionally, this minor is designed to prepare students to be credentialed as Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialists (CSCS) as recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA).

At Alfred University the exercise science minor is taught with an interdisciplinary approach. Courses within this minor are taught within the disciplines of Athletic Training, Biology, and Physical Education and all within the context of a liberal arts and sciences education.
